Biology
Course description: Biology 1st semester focuses on science process skills, cell parts, processes and functions, especially the chemical basis of life. The course will cover cells, as determined by DNA, heredity and genetics and the flow of energy and matter. Biology 2nd semester focuses on the interaction and interdependence among organisms and the environment, and the theory of natural selection and evolution, as well as the diversity of organisms and the ecological relationships between them. Special attention will be paid to organisms in local and other Alaskan environments. Scientific vocabulary, investigation, inquiry, experimentation, validation and supporting evidence and safety will be stressed both semesters.
Introduction to Basic Pathophysiology
This course will emphasize the study of viruses, bacteria and other microorganisms. The lab portion of the course will focus on systematic identification of bacteria. Pathophysiology will review basic cellular function, tissue types and body systems to compare with the body’s response to injury or illness. Topics will include basic pharmacology and the immune system. Human A & P is a required course for this class that is offered second semester.
Human Anatomy and Physiology
This course will give you an overview of the organs & systems of the human body, their functions and the mechanisms that control body activities. This elective course is open to 11th and 12th graders
